In this blog post, I'm going to share how Avril, an MBT online personal training client lost 20lbs within her first six weeks with online semi-private personal training, nutrition, and mindset coaching.
Without beating around the bush, let's get straight into…
Reason #1 - Managed expectations
When Avril started her 6 Week Mind-Body Challenge she didn't expect things to be simple right away.
Towards the end of her first week, I can recall a discussion I had with Avril... during which I likened the process to driving a car;
For every experienced driver, driving is easy and doesn't require too much conscious attention and effort.
But for every 'newbie', driving is hard and can be overwhelming... it isn't an unconscious or mindless process.
The more the 'newbie' shows up and familiarises herself with the workings of the car, however, the sooner the process becomes habitual and when it does, it becomes a lot easier, automatic and requires less thought.
So don't expect to wrap your head around exercise and nutrition right away.
Just show up consistently and be patient.
Reason #2 - A thoughtless approach
When it came to the exercise aspects of things Avril didn't have to do any thinking.
All she had to do was show up for 20 minutes three times per week and I did the thinking for her.
The same was true regarding her nutrition too.
She didn't have to figure anything out on her own. All she had to do was reach out to me when something didn't make sense and needed clarification and simplification.
After her first week, this made the process a lot more thoughtless and even somewhat effortless... Resulting in her enjoying the process instead of dreading it.
Reason #3 - She didn't go at it alone
Having a Coach to guide you through the process is one thing, but having a supportive community of like-minded ladies rooting for you is another.
The community aspects of things are so important and I believe it had a major role to play in Avril's success.
So get yourself around the right people.
Join an online personal training programme such as the one Avril did, a local gym, or even organise weekly walks with family members or friends
Reason #4 - Tested beliefs
Like all new members, Avril was nervous about letting her hair down on weekends(having a few drinks and an 'unhealthy' meal, etc), believing that it would spoil her progress.
By the end of week two, she put this belief to the test.
The result? After weighing and measuring herself that Sunday, she still made progress!
Now her approach to things is quite flexible, and she's confident that she can continue to make progress without having to make sacrifices in her personal life.
Generally, it is our beliefs about things that hold us back and keep us stuck. Such beliefs making things harder in your mind than they are in reality. So begin to test them to see if they actually hold any weight(no pun intended).
Reason #5 - She started with the right motives
Avril's primary motive wasn't to 'look better'...
Yes, that was something she desired but it wasn't the main driver.
The drive was something deeper.
Avril, like the majority of Mind-Body Training members, was and is concerned primarily with improving the internal; how she thinks and feels... Her main concern being health and well-being!
As a result of having the right motives she was able to push through those hard days.. and as a result of doing so she improved her health and well-being.. and as a result of her doing that, the external changed as a by-product: she lost 20lbs!
I'm the same regarding motives.
The thought of looking better doesn't motivate me to get up and exercise.
What motivates me to do it is the thought of my mental health deteriorating if I let myself fall into the habit of not doing it!
Because Avril and my own motives are deep, we don't need to rely on a 'feeling of motivation' to do what needs to be done...
We just get up and do it!
So there you have it folks - 5 of the main reasons why Avril lost 20lbs in just 6 weeks.
