ABOUT
MIND BODY TRAINING

Mind Body Training exists because lasting change does not come from willpower alone.
It comes from understanding the relationship between how you think, how you feel, and how you behave, and learning how to work with that relationship rather than fighting it.

I’m Alan Byrne, often known as Coach Alan, founder of Mind Body Training. I help busy, working mothers lose 12–24 lbs and drop 1–2 clothing sizes in their first 12 weeks, while building the energy, confidence, and mindset skills needed to sustain those changes long term, without restrictive diets or needing to commute to a gym.

But this approach did not come from textbooks alone.

It came from lived experience.

WHY
MIND BODY TRAINING EXISTS

Weight loss and physical health are often treated as simple problems with simple solutions.

Eat less. Move more. Be disciplined.

If that were enough, far fewer people would be struggling.

The truth is that for many people, especially busy working mothers carrying stress, responsibility, and emotional load, behaviour change is deeply connected to mental health, stress regulation, self belief, and identity.

Mind Body Training was created to address that reality.

MY STORY: WHERE THIS
APPROACH CAME FROM

As a teenager, I went down the wrong path and became caught in a cycle of drug addiction.

By the age of 17, this led to multiple drug-induced psychotic episodes and being prescribed antipsychotic medication that I believed I would need for the rest of my life.

As my mental health deteriorated, my physical health followed.

I was underweight, weak, unhealthy, and disconnected from my body.

Looking back, it’s clear that my poor physical health further reinforced my mental health struggles, creating a cycle that felt difficult to escape.

At 18, I made a decision to change.

That decision wasn’t driven by motivation or confidence. It was driven by the realisation that my ways of thinking were leading me toward behaviours that were harming me.

I began studying psychology on a personal level to better understand my mind, my mental health, and my behaviour.

Alongside this, I started exercising and meditating.

This combination of mental and physical training changed everything.

Over time, I rebuilt my health, strengthened my body, stabilised my mental wellbeing, and eventually came off antipsychotic medication.

More importantly, the changes lasted because they were built on understanding, not force.

FROM PERSONAL RECOVERY TO PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

A few years into my own journey, I qualified as a personal trainer.

Then, in 2017, I launched Mind Body Training to integrate what had genuinely worked for me:

Psychology informed coaching, physical training, nutrition education, and mindfulness based behaviour change.

Today, I am a qualified ITEC Level 3 Personal Trainer with over nine years of coaching experience, and I recently completed four years of professional psychotherapy training with the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IICP) and I am currently waiting to receive my full qualification.

This dual perspective shapes everything I do.

I don’t just look at what someone is eating or how often they train.

I look at stress, routines, self talk, emotional patterns, beliefs, and lifestyle pressures. Ultimately, I focus on the factors that makes eating well and exercising easier or harder, because that’s where sustainable change actually lives

WHO I WORK WITH

I primarily work with busy, working mothers who want to lose weight, feel more confident in their bodies, and regain energy for life inside and outside of work.

Most of the women I work with have tried diets before.

Many have trained before.

What they haven’t had is support that respects their reality.

They don’t need perfection.
They don’t need punishment.
They don’t need another plan that ignores stress, fatigue, or emotional load.

They need a process that works with their nervous system, their schedule, and their life.

That is what Mind Body Training provides.

MY COACHING AND PERSONAL TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

Helping someone lose weight is rarely just about food and exercise.

If weight gain has been influenced by stress, anxiety, emotional eating, burnout, or low self-belief, then changing surface behaviours alone is often a temporary fix.

Without tools to manage mental wellness and internal pressure, behaviour change becomes fragile.

When stress rises, the old patterns return.

My approach focuses on:

  • Building self-trust through action, not pressure

  • Developing sustainable habits rather than short-term compliance

  • Addressing mindset, stress, and behaviour together

  • Creating evidence-based confidence through small, repeatable wins

This is why I developed concepts like Positive Actfirmations, and why helpful behaviour generally leads to helpful belief in my coaching.

IS MIND-BODY TRAINING

RIGHT FOR YOU?

If you are looking for a personal trainer who understands that physical health and mental health are inseparable, and who will meet you where you are rather than where you “should” be, then Mind Body Training may be a good fit.

If you are tired of starting over, tired of extremes, and ready for a more honest and sustainable approach, we can explore that together.

You can book a free, no pressure call to talk through your goals, challenges, and whether my approach suits your needs.

HOW TO CONTACT
COACH ALAN

If you feel aligned with my approach and want support that goes beyond surface-level advice, there are a few simple ways to connect or take the next step.

APPLY FOR MY 12 WEEK ONLINE PERSONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME

I work primarily with busy, working women who want sustainable fat loss, more energy, and a healthier relationship with their body, without restrictive diets or gym-heavy routines.

My 12 Week Online Personal Training Programme is application-based. This allows me to make sure the programme is a good fit for your goals, lifestyle, and current headspace before we work together.

The application is short and helps me understand:

  • Your goals and current challenges

  • Your schedule and energy levels

  • Whether my approach is the right support for you right now

If it looks like a good fit, I’ll invite you to the next step.

BOOK A FREE CLARITY CALL

If you would prefer to skip the application process altogether, you can book a free clarity call with me instead.

This is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation where we:

  • Talk through what you’re struggling with

  • Explore what has and hasn’t worked for you before

  • See whether my coaching style and programme are right for you

If we decide to move forward, I’ll explain exactly how the programme works and what support would look like for you. If not, you’ll still leave with clarity on your next best step.

Frequently Asked Questions About
Mind Body Training

Do you only work with women?

No. I do not turn away anyone who is genuinely seeking holistic, sustainable change, men included, and I currently work with a small number of male clients. That said, since launching Mind Body Training in 2017, the majority of people who have joined have been women. Over time, I noticed consistent themes in their challenges, pressures, and life contexts, particularly around stress, energy, body image, and balancing work and family life. As a result, I refined my messaging and programmes to speak directly to those needs. This allows me to communicate more clearly and provide more relevant support, while still working with anyone who resonates with the approach.

Do I need to be very fit or confident before starting?

No. Most people come to Mind Body Training feeling tired, inconsistent, frustrated, or disconnected from their body.
My approach is designed for people who want to rebuild confidence and momentum gradually, not those who already feel disciplined or motivated. The work starts where you are, not where you think you should be.

Is this therapy?

No. Mind Body Training provides coaching, education, and personal training services, not clinical therapy or counselling.
While my work is informed by psychology and I am a psychotherapist-in-training, this service focuses on behaviour change, habits, mindset, and physical health. If someone requires therapeutic support, I encourage them to work alongside a qualified mental health professional where appropriate.

How does your mindset coaching support weight loss?

Weight loss is rarely just about food and exercise. Stress, emotional eating, self-talk, all-or-nothing thinking, and burnout play a major role in long-term outcomes. My mindset coaching focuses on helping clients understand their patterns, build self-trust, and develop skills that support consistency under real-life pressure.

Mindset Coaching for Weight Loss

What if I don’t want to go to a gym?

That’s completely fine. Many of my clients train from home due to time, confidence, childcare, or work commitments.
I offer flexible options, including structured online fitness classes and guided training plans that can be done at home with minimal equipment, or none at all.

You can explore how the online training works here: Online Fitness Classes

Do you use restrictive diets or calorie obsession?

No. My nutrition coaching is designed to support fat loss without rigid rules, food guilt, or unsustainable restriction. The focus is on building awareness, structure, and consistency in a way that fits real life. Clients learn how to eat in a way that supports their goals while still enjoying food and social situations.

How do I work with you?

The best place to start is by reaching out directly. You can contact me via my website, email, or social platforms to ask questions or express interest. From there, we will decide together whether a short call or direct application makes the most sense for you.
If you already feel confident that the approach aligns with you, you can skip any unnecessary steps and move straight into a conversation about how I can support you.
