MINDSET COACHING FOR WEIGHT LOSS
Psychology-Informed Support Inside Our 12 Week Online Personal Training Programme
Mindset coaching for weight loss focuses on the psychology of weight loss, helping women improve consistency, manage emotional eating, and build sustainable habits rather than relying on motivation alone.
Most weight loss programmes focus on calories, workouts, and meal plans. Very few address the psychological patterns that determine whether someone can stay consistent when motivation drops, stress increases, or life gets busy.
That is why mindset coaching is a core feature of our 12 Week Online Personal Training Programme, not an optional add-on.
This page explains what our mindset coaching involves, the professional training behind it, the evidence supporting it, and how it fits into a complete mind-body programme.
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND CLINICAL CONTEXT
Mindset coaching within this programme is delivered by Coach Alan, who is an ITEC qualified personal trainer with over 9 years of coaching experience, and also a psychotherapist in training.
Alan has completed four years of professional psychotherapy training with the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy (one of Ireland’s recognised psychotherapy training institutes) and is currently awaiting full qualification.
This background informs how mindset work is approached inside the programme.
Rather than surface level motivation or generic mindset tips, the coaching is grounded in:
-
Behaviour change theory
-
Psychological flexibility
-
Emotional regulation
-
Ethical boundaries between coaching and therapy
This ensures clients receive informed, responsible support that respects both psychological wellbeing and professional scope of practice.

PSYCHOLOGY INFORMED, NOT PSYCHOTHERAPY
An important distinction.
The mindset coaching in this programme is psychology informed coaching, not psychotherapy.
It draws from evidence based psychological frameworks, including:
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy principles
• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy principles
• Behavioural activation and habit formation models
These approaches are widely used in both health psychology and behaviour change research to support sustainable lifestyle change.
The programme does not diagnose, treat, or replace mental health therapy.
If someone requires clinical mental health support, they should work with a fully qualified mental health professional in an appropriate therapeutic setting.
Within this programme, psychological tools are applied to everyday behaviours around food, exercise, stress, and routine.
WHY MINDSET MATTERS FOR WEIGHT LOSS
Research consistently shows that long term weight loss outcomes are strongly influenced by psychological and behavioural factors, not just calorie intake.
This is why mindset coaching for weight loss plays such a critical role in long term fat loss, especially when emotional eating, stress, and inconsistent routines are involved.
Common barriers to fat loss include:
-
Emotional eating in response to stress or low mood
-
All or nothing thinking after setbacks
-
Difficulty tolerating discomfort or delayed results
-
Low self efficacy and confidence
-
Burnout from overly rigid plans
Psychology informed mindset work helps address these barriers by:
-
Increasing awareness of thought behaviour patterns
-
Improving emotional regulation under stress
-
Supporting flexible, values driven decision making
-
Reducing reliance on motivation and willpower
-
Strengthening consistency over time
When mindset is ignored, people often cycle through short bursts of progress followed by relapse. When mindset is supported alongside training and nutrition, adherence improves and results are more likely to be maintained.
While mindset work helps improve consistency and can reduce emotional, it is supported by a non-restrictive nutrition approach that focuses on sustainable habits rather than restrictive dieting. It is also reinforced through our structured online fitness classes, where routines, accountability, and confidence are built through guided training
PROGRAMME VIDEO BREAKDOWN
While this page focuses solely on explaining the mindset coaching aspect of our weight loss programme, the video below breaks down the whole of the programme, including how our online personal training sessions and nutritional approach works.

HOW MINDSET COACHING IS APPLIED IN THE PROGRAMME
Mindset coaching is not delivered as abstract theory or standalone lessons.
It is applied practically throughout the 12 week programme in ways that support real life behaviour change.
This includes:
-
Coaching conversations linked directly to your weekly check ins
-
Support around emotional eating, stress, and overwhelm
-
Tools for responding constructively to missed sessions or off weeks
-
Guidance on building habits without perfectionism
-
Encouragement to focus on process rather than short term outcomes
The aim is not to eliminate struggle.
The aim is to help you respond differently when struggle shows up.
